Animal Habitats – Meerkats typically live in large groups, up to 40 meerkats living in one group, called a Mob. Which is lead by the dominant female, similiar to a Hyena clan. Meerkats live in intricate underground habitats called burrows, meerkats are transient and maintain and live in numerous burrows spread across a large area. Burrows can be up to 1.5 metres underground, each burrow can have 25+ entry and exit points. When relaxing around the burrow or foraging for food, meerkats nominate a lookout to watch for predators, specifically arial predators like eagles and hawks, this function is rotated amongst the Mob members during the day.
